The Art of Writing a Great Resume for Designer position

Nowadays, it is becoming way more difficult to find the right resume for the graphics designer job, but it is not rare to discover some rejected resumes. Aside from making sure that your resume is structured carefully, it is equally significant to include the right and well written content.

To prove your worth, you are required to send a resume which immediately catches the attention and proves to be an effective influence; here is how you can achieve that:

1. Avoid using MS Word

If you want to apply for a secretarial post then Microsoft word is a good option, but if you are pursuing something creative like a design job, its peculiar and limited options for layout and complex cross-platform problems can mutilate your perfect resumes. Portable Document Format or PDF is away better alternative, simply because it allows you to create compatible cross-platform and nice looking resume.

2. Use Desktop Publishing (DTP) software

The layout and content of your resume will be critically inspected by art directors. That is why it is crucial to use Desktop publishing software. Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and QuadXpress can truly create the best-looking resumes; in addition, they also allow you to save them as PDFs. 3. Try to adopt the correct tone

On top of everything else, your resume should have the right tone. Companies not only want to inquire about your achievements but they also want to know how and why you achieved them.

The confidence should not be delivered by just stating why you are good repeatedly without any proof. So you should emphasize on providing hard evidence and facts that speak for itself.

It is dangerous to talk too much without any purpose. Repetition is commonly regarded as an indicator for lack of confidence, so you should create a resume that is snappy as well as sharp for quick reference.

4. Do not let an agency reform your resume

At times, it can prove to be useful to let an agency find work for you, and even though it is suggested that you should apply directly for the jobs, sometimes using the help of agency can prove beneficial.

But in minority, there have been some cases where the agencies reformat your diligently designed resume into something that agencies consider, attracts their clients and typically the consequences are nightmares.

5. Be specific

You should not include the whole story of your life in the resume because art directors don’t have enough time to go through it. Your focus should be to only include the suitable details. Summarized, well written, and clean resumes can easily win over the lengthy and irrelevant ones.

6. Do not lie

Believe me, there have been some cases in which people claim that they have intelligently created a masterpiece in the form of a website. The art director would have been completely astonished if that was true, but they end up seeing the website that has been designed by them!

7. Place the correct information

Your resume, at a minimum, should only include your name, email address, contact details, the online address of your portfolio, and your phone number (Your mobile number should also be included if you have a doubt that you might lose the job because you were not available at home at the particular time).

After this, you should state your education and your work experience. Most recent job or education should be stated first in both cases. The inclusion of job titles, dates, and a short synopsis of your position is also recommended. It is optional to include references.
